Check-in clerk: Good afternoon, ma’am. May I please see your passport and ticket?

Traveler: Here you are.

Check-in clerk: Thank you. So, I see that you are on flight 267 to Berlin and then you will be transferring to flight 7331 to London.  Is that correct, Ms. Williams?

Traveler: Yes, that’s right.

Check-in clerk: Great. Do you have a seating preference, Ms. Williams?

Traveler: I would prefer an aisle seat if that’s possible.

Check-in clerk: No problem. Do you have any luggage to check in?

Traveler: Yes, I have one piece.  I’ll be taking my other bag as my carry-on item.

Check-in clerk: Can you please check this list of restricted items and confirm that your luggage doesn’t contain these items.

Traveler: Uh…no. None of those items are in my bags.

Check-in clerk: Excellent. Well, here is your boarding pass. Your plane will be departing from gate 23C. This other paper is your baggage claim ticket. I have checked your bags all the way to London, so you won’t need to pick them up in Berlin.

Traveler: Okay, thanks.

Check-in clerk: Have a good flight, Ms. Williams.

Hello?

A speaking
Hello, Adele speaking.
这个用法也可以说成 Hello, it’s Adele 或 It’s Adele calling 或 This is Adele Calling.
甚至当别人问说 Is Adele there? 你可以直接回答 This is she. 所以如果你是男性,要回答 This is he。

Can I help you?

This is A speaking/ calling.

Is B there?
B, please.

May/ Could/ Can I speak to B, please?
I’d like to speak to B, please.

Just a second.
Hang on. I’ll get B.

Hold the line please.
Could you hold on, please?
Just a moment, please.
One moment, please.

I’ll get him/ her.
I’ll see if B is in.

B is not here right now.
B is busy/ occupied/ tied up now.
I’m afraid B can’t take this call at this time.
I’m afraid B isn’t available at this time.
I’m afraid B can’t come to the phone at this time.

I’m afraid you’ve got the wrong number.
Sorry. I think you’ve dialed the wrong number.

Oh, I’m sorry. I have the wrong number.
I must have the wrong number.
I guess I have the wrong number.

Could you call back later?
Could you call back in a few minutes?
Could you call back in a little while?

Can I leave a message?

Would you like to leave a message?
Can I take a message?

Could you give him/ her a message?

Could you tell him/ her that I called?

I’m afraid I can’t hear you.

I think we have a bad connection.

Sorry. I didn’t catch that.

Could you speak up a little, please?

Pardon me?
Could you repeat that, please?
Could you say it again, please?

A: Hello, it’s Shirley from the marketing department. How can I help you?
B: This is Adele speaking. May I speak to David, please?
A: Could you hold on, please? I’ll see if he’s in.
B: Thank you.
A: David is occupied now. Would you like to leave a message?
B: Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t hear you. Could you repeat that, please?
A: David is not here right now. Can I take a message?
B: Would you ask him to call me back?
A: Certainly.
B: Thank you.

A: 好的。
